Assessments can be of two types, scorable and non-scorable. A scorable assessment is one in which each answer is assigned points, either automatically or manually, and a total score for the candidate is calculating by adding all the points earned. For a non scorable assessment, on the other hand, the reviewer can manually assign a rating for each answer but there is no score available at the assessment level.
A scorable assessment works as follows. When the Assessment is submitted by a candidate, the Reviewer need to see the results & answers and provide feedback about the chosen answers. This review process can be automatic or in manual manner. In the automatic review process, each question is given with some points or weightage by the User. When a candidate answers to those questions, it is automatically assigned some points as per the right or wrong answer.
But in the manual review process, the reviewer has to check the answers itself. After the analysis, he provides star rating for that question as per the credibility of the answer given by the candidates. Overall score will then be calculated by taking an average of Star rating given by all the Reviewers.
Below explained are some of the important points about scoring methods used in the Assessment module of Talenture while reviewing the submitted assessments:
1. Max. Points, Weightage
While adding questions for a assessment template in Talenture, each question is provided with some maximum points i.e. 1, 2, 5, 10 etc. with it. Also, weightage i.e. 100%, 75%, 50% etc is assigned for each question. For example, if a question has been assigned maximum 10 points and weightage given is 50%, then this question will considered of only 5 marks(50% of 10 points) while including in the final scoring.
Maximum 100 points can be allocated for a question in assessment module of Talenture.
2. Auto Scoring of MCQs
As we discussed above, questions are automatically scored in the automatic review process. Assessment module of Talenture is designed in such a way that it automatically scores multiple choice questions when a candidate submits the assessment. It is applicable to both Multiple choice questions with Single and Multiple possible answers.
The Reviewer do not need to review the answers and score them manually. This is because, the correct answers are already specified by the User for each of these type of questions while designing the questions through question manager. When a candidate answers to that question, answers is matched internally with the correct answer and final score is given as per the correctness of the answer.
3. Negative Scoring
Negative scoring is a type of marking system where for every question you answer wrongly, after the total score for the student's submission is tallied, penalties are then applied by deducting marks from the previous Total score.
Assessment module of Talenture allows negative scoring for MCQs type of questions. Negative marking can be from 200% to 25% of maximum marks allocated for each question.
Suppose, the maximum marks assigned to the questions were 10 and there is a negative marking of 50% for each wrong answer. If a candidate answers it correctly, he/she will get 10 marks for the correct answer, But if the answer given was wrong, then candidate will be credited with -5 marks for this question.
4. Manual Scoring for Non MCQs
In the manual review process, the Reviewer will check each answer closely and score will be given by him manually. This type of scoring is applicable to non MCQs type of questions i.e. Descriptive, File Type, Picture, Audio and Video questions.
The reviewer will evaluate each such type of question and star rating is provided by the reviewer by analyzing the correctness of the answers given. This Rating will be out of 5 stars. He will also provide some feedback for the answer while submitting his review.
If there are multiple reviewers of an assessment, then final score will be calculated by taking an average of the star rating given by all reviewers.
5. Ratings for Non Scorable Answers
In case of non-scorable answers, review is done by submitting the Review after giving Star rating and feedback comments. However, no score will be given for these type of questions. If there are multiple reviewers, each of them will provide the star rating and submit their feedback individually. Review submitted by one reviewer can be also seen by other Reviewer of that assessment.
